Dragons Page Finished! (and stitching issue)

Yes it's true.
There is only 11 pages of Dragons to go. Are you thinking, really that's still a lot! Yes, yes it is. But after my next page of the blue dragon things get a lot faster with the sky being mostly 3 colours and not nearly as many confetti stitches. If you can imagine the patience it takes for those scales on the dragons... I'm amazed sometimes that this piece is still alive.  :)
But truly I love it, and might even be a bit sad in another 2 years when (hopefully) it will be complete to stop working on it. But there is always something new and exiting to work on that is for sure!
So without further adieu I give you page 17 (I think) of Judgement Dragons:
I've had some feedback from people that it's hard to tell how large or small dragons is. So here is the entire piece to date with the ruler to give you a true idea of it's size (and how tiny the stitches are).

So my issue...
well there are probably lots of them, but let's say we stick with stitching ones. I started this little ornament from Prairie Schooler the other day (it's two pumpkins stacked). I had some left over silk from The Raven so figured I'd use it. And this piece of leftover linen in the stash that was a great size. Thought it would be all great until this....

Can you see how not covered it all is? Painfully in my eyes. I guess on this linen (which is a 28ct but seems to have huge holes) and only 2 strands of silk it's just not going to do the trick. Or least so it seems to me. So tell me honestly what do you think? The linen, the silk, my inadequate stitching or it's fine? Be honest please, I do want real opinions on this. No egos in the room here.

I have other updates and items to show you that are going to be posted to my etsy store, including another stitching piece (or maybe two if I get the other finished tonight), a beaded bracelet and more Kumihimo. But that will be for later this week. I hope you'll come by and visit me then. And thank you to everyone that has left such lovely comments about my pieces and my new store.

Those HAED are really something, aren't they?? I only have 4 more pages to go on my Mystic, but that is still a lot and so I know how much 11 pages will be! I prefer a tighter weave linen or evenweave myself. I don't like any material showing thru on any project I do, but that is really personal preference. So it's your opinion that matters, if you don't like it, do it on another piece. You won't be happy if you finish this one the way it is.

WOW those dragons are Fabulous! I haven't even finished page one of mine so kudos to you!
As for the pumpkins, if you're not happy with it now it is unlikely you'll be happy with it later. I don't mind being able to see the fabric through so I think it looks great.

The dragons are coming out great! Wow! 11 more pages. Some linens are just not woven tight and need more coverage. To me I like it and it gives an unique look.

Dragon looks amazing! Wow, 17 pages? And 11 more pages to go? Dang!

On your pumpkins, I think the floss coverage does look a little sparse for the black but IMHO, I think it would be fine on the whole. After all, you won't be looking at it stitch by stitch but the big picture :)

Hugs,
Veronica.

As far as what the issue is....I have found that black thread, whether silk or another fiber, covers less well than any other color. On 28 count I use three threads of floss for black (and white if its on a darker fabric). I also believe it is more of an optical illusion and that probably the other colors might do the same but we don't "see" it. There is not that much done in the black, so you might be able to go over the stitching with another black thread. Not sure if that will do the trick or just give you fatter stitches. Also, laddering your threads might have given better coverage. I do believe that this will look fine once finished and hung (assuming its an ornament.)

Love your dragons! They are coming right along!

As for the pumpkins, I think that they look fine. However it is not our opinion that matters in the long run it is yours!! What I would do is stand a few feet from it and see if you like it or not, when you are up close the overall effect is not quite the same. If to you the coverage is not good then add another strand of the black. The orange is fine however you can't see any fabric underneath.

dragons look amazing!
the pumpkin looks fine to me, it will probably also depend on how you finish it. But if you're not happy with how it looks, that's what counts!

Dragons is looking fantastic, when you show the whole piece it is easy to see how much you have gotten completed. As to the pumpkins, looks fine to me, think it is the darkness of the thread against the white of the linen.

Congratulations on another page! It's looking beautiful. I like the uncovered look - I think it looks fresh and airy, but you're the one who has to look at it...

Your HAED is gorgeous! You already have so much stitched.Knowing that you already come this far, must be a huge encouraging factor to stitch on more and more...To me your sampler looks fine. It is true that you see the white within the black more, but as others have said, it's often the case with black threads, especially if you stitch on a loosely woven linen.

Your dragons look geourgous. As for your stitch dilemia the white will disappear after the work is done and you frame it. Right now the stitches are tight but will relax and cover in the majority of tthe background in time.
