Well... I was hoping that by now I might be stitching on Counting Bats by Just Nan. As it is Hallowe'en tomorrow. But sadly that ducky is still not done. ;)
That is okay... we'll get there.
But I do have an udpate for you on Judgement (dragons) by Character Creations.
And with it I have a question for you.
I have gotten to the last page of the first row... so I now have the complete width (the top dozen rows there is the page edge). Apparently I can't count or at least not when I started this... and I started it with only 2" on the left side, and therefore with 4" on the right. So do you think this is okay for framing?
Here's a pic:
I am kinda freaking out about this. As this is already one years worth of work and I just don't think I could stand to start again (albeit I was sick for 6 months of that year... but still...)... so I'm hoping that it will be okay. But that said... I want to know before I go any farther if that 2" is a potential problem for framing?
I have a great framer... he's sick right now, but I hope he gets better soon. I'd take it to him and ask but he's in the hospital... (but looks like he'll be out soon). So I can't ask him. So I turn to my wonderful online friends.
Okay... here are the standard pics as well, the full piece to date:
And the portion I am working on right now in close-up so you can get an idea of the stitches:
I do hope you all have a wonderful Hallowe'en. I love Hallowe'en so am looking forward to it. In fact I'm already wearing my kitty ears!
I do have to work on sunday which kinda sucks. But that is okay... we are coming into insane time of year for the next four weeks at my office... so my stitching progress may decrease for a bit b/c of overtime work. But it will make a comeback in December.
Thanks for visiting and your comments, and a thank you to those of you who answer in advance my fabric question!

I'm not an expert, but it looks Okay to me. I sometimes only have 2" and it frames fine. You can always sew some extra fabric to that side to help with stretching when framing.
Let's try this again:
It looks fine. The Dimension kits usually have about 2" margins.
The lady at the local Michaels said that the smallest they could frame with was 1/2", but I don't think I'll be trying that!
2" is fine. If you want to add a large matte to the design, all you need to do is sew (with a machine is best) some light cotton all around the edges that are too short.
The design is looking lovely. I can't wait to see more, and I hope you aren't discouraged by this small problem which isn't a problem at all.
I think two inches is plenty. You're ok...I can't count either!
It's looking so lovely too!
That piece looks wonderful Mel. I think that two inches is plenty for framing. If you decide that you want to mat the piece, you can sew a strip of muslin along the edge. Believe me, you're not the first person that has done that, but I bet you freaked when you realized you were over an inch.
I agree with Deb completely. I wouldn't worry myself over it.
I think you will be able to make it work. The suggestion about using muslin is a good idea also. Great work!
Dragons is looking good. I think you will be just fine with 2 inches. The kits I make don't leave much space either.
I do that all the time! I have no idea how it happens! I measure and measure, and mark with pins, but just about every single piece I stitch ends up closer to the left side of the fabric, unless I start in the middle. Glad to know that I'm not the only one!!! As already mentioned you can always add a strip of fabric to the side for framing (if necessary), it would end up under the matte so it wouldn't be seen. It's coming along beautifuly!
All the above answers are correct....so what are you waiting for??? Pick it back up and start stitching! It's really pretty! But poor Ducky feels lonely, I'm sure.
Mel, the borders will be fine. 2" is plenty of room for framing. Just keep on stitching!
It looks lovely! I always use just 2 inches for framing. If you want to mat, you might want to talk to the framer depending on how big the mats are, but if it's w/o a mat, you have plenty of room.
Looks great and two inches is ok for framing.Keep up the good work.
You and me both. I did this with Mary Wigham but had only an inch and a quarter on one side and four on the other. I put a simmilar question on my blog and Lenna, who is a framer, said it would be OK. Great stitching.
Yes it's ok for framing. More then 2 inches would be better, but a framer should be able to do it with 2 inch.
If you want to have matting added then you can still add some for room by sewing on some cotton. If you don't have a sewing machine or are not sure what fabric, ask your framer (IF you need to add some fabric to the side). I know for sure that my framer adds also regularly fabric to stitched pieces.
You shouldn't have any framing troubles. If you need more fabric on the short side you can add muslin or other fabric to it that will be hidden by either the matting or the frame itself. Don't worry about it. Your progress is looking great.
